    1. Update your video card drivers

Outdated drivers can cause hinderance in performance of the hardware and can also be the cause of Green Screen of Death. So, it is recommended to upgrade your drivers to the latest before you update to Windows 11. If you’ve got an NVIDIA graphics card, click on this link to download the latest driver, or Else, click on the AMD graphics driver download link.

Alternatively, you can manually upgrade your drivers from your Device Manager.

First off, Right-click on the ‘Start‘ button and search ‘Device Manager’ and open it.

    Device Manager

Expand the ‘Display adapters’ section, right-click on your graphics card, and click on ‘Update driver.

    Display Adaptor

Now, select ‘Browse my computer for drivers.‘

    Update drivers

On the subsequent page, click on ‘Let me pick from an inventory of obtainable drivers on my computer’ and Windows will obtain your display driver relatively quickly.

Then finally, click on your graphics card driver setting and click on the ‘Next’ option.

The driver would be installed instantly.

You could also update the drivers in Safe Mode. First, hit ‘Windows + R’ to call up Run, then search for “msconfig”.

    2. Remove unwanted applications

Having many applications that you don’t use can take a toll on your system performance, drain valuable resources, and even cause the Green Screen of Death. So, if you’re getting the screen a touch too frequently, we should advise you to uninstall unwanted applications and check out again. To get rid of apps, first, press Windows key + I to open ‘Settings.’ Then, click on ‘Apps.’

    apps

    Now select Apps & features.

    apps and features

Locate the concerned application and click on the ‘3-dot’ menu icon within the top right corner and click ‘Uninstall.’

    uninstall

Click on ‘Uninstall‘ again to verify your choice.

And that’s it! The app will now be uninstalled from your PC or system.

    3. Disconnect external peripherals

Although it will not appear to be it, attaching external peripherals to your Windows PC are often damaging sometimes. So, if there’s a pen drive, USB mouse/keyboard, or something else connected to your PC, we’d such you to disconnect them and provides it a try. Then the Green Screen issue should get resolved automatically.

    4. Uninstall antivirus/firewall software

Windows Defender may be a capable security application bundled in with every copy of Windows 11 OS. So, unless you regularly visit shady websites, there’s practically no reason to put in a third-party antivirus. Moreover, having Antivirus or any third party firewall software has often been the miscreant behind the Green Screen display. So, it’s advisable to uninstall them and leave the security to Windows Security.

Press ‘Windows + I”  on your keyboard to open the Settings app to uninstall an application. Now, click on ‘Apps.’

    apps

Go to the ‘Apps & features.

Click and choose ‘Uninstall’ for your Antivirus software.

Click on ‘Uninstall’ again to verify your choice and follow the on-screen prompts to end uninstalling the appliance.

    5. Close up hardware acceleration

To improve performance, Windows often calls upon your computer’s specialized hardware. And while that’s overall a good thing, you would possibly run into occasional errors when the components aren’t operating at their best.

To turn off hardware acceleration in Google Chrome, first, click on the three dots at the top-right corner and attend ‘Settings.‘

    Relaunch

    That should do the trick.

    6. Pause Windows update service

When you’re getting the GSOD minutes after successfully logging in to Windows 11, you’ll need to hold the Windows Update. An update component might be broken, making the OS unstable moments after it’s initialized. To bypass this, you’ll need to stop the service in its tracks using Windows PowerShell.

Open Settings using Windows key + I.

     Select Windows Update.

    Windows Update

     Select Update history.

    update history

Select Uninstall updates and the recent install that is causing issues will be uninstalled.

    uninstall update

This would stop the Windows update service. Ensure that you use the Windows 11 operating system as you generally do and see if you face the GSOD again. Remember that you will need to repeat this step whenever you restart your system.

    7. Repair with trouble-shooter

    Windows 11 Green Screen Error

If you can’t log in to Windows 11, give Windows ‘Startup Repair’ program a try. Of course, it’s not a foolproof solution by any means, but it’s worth finding out.

    1. You’ll get to have a bootable USB drive to urge into recovery. Now, click on ‘Repair your computer.’
    2. Then, attend ‘Troubleshoot.’
    3. Finally, click on ‘Startup Repair‘ and let Windows do its thing. Then automatically, your Windows will solve your Green Screen  Error of Death issue by itself.

    8. Reinstall Windows 10 (when installing Windows 11)

If you’re getting the Green Screen while trying to update Windows 10 to Windows 11 Insider Preview, the likelihood is that your copy of Windows 10 is not as pristine as you think that it’s. So, it’s best if you put in a fresh copy of Windows 10 then attempt to upgrade it to Windows 11 Insider Preview.

To install a fresh copy from Windows 10 itself, press ‘Windows + i’ on your keyboard to travel to ‘Settings.’ Then, head over to the ‘Windows Update’ option on your left side.

    Click on ‘Advanced Options.

    Then, click on ‘Recovery.‘

    Now click on ‘Reset PC.’

Since you’re going for a fresh install, you’ll get to click on ‘Remove everything.‘
